Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) also known as 3D examination of the jaws and teeth is the latest advancement in radiographic technology.

With CBCT, images of the teeth and jaws are obtained in the form of sections in all planes and at a high resolution of up to 0.075 mm. The examination data can be reconstructed into three-dimensional images.

The method is widely used in implantology for visualization and measurement of the bone in the debrided area, in cases prior to the placement of dental implant(s), and can also be used to fabricate surgical guides.

The information from the examination is used to analyse a variety of pathological conditions affecting the teeth and jaws.

CBCT is of limited informativeness in terms of diagnosing changes in soft tissues - salivary glands, lymph nodes, muscles, etc.

The dosage of the CT scan is up to several times lower than that of the known CT scans used for medical purposes.
